The Tierra Negra Fiction Fictional and Meaningless Award for the Best Cuban Sammich in the Florida Keys

What it is, Pigeon Handlers?

This is the moment that you have all been waiting for.

“The Deadwood Movie already came out.” You say.

Shit. I missed it. But no.

“Did they announce they were redoing the last two seasons of Game of Thrones?”

No.

“Did they announce the release date of Breath of the Wild 2 on the switch?”

Ugh. I wish.

“Are the Aggies finally going to—”

I’ll stop you right there, the answer is no for multiple reasons. No, today is the day where The Interweb Carrier Pigeons and I, the Chief Pigeon Handler, channel our inner and outer Drew Carey and award The Tierra Negra Fiction Fictional and Meaningless Award for the Best Cuban Sammich in the category of The Florida Keys award. Yes, mi amigos, after concluding our adventure in the Florida Keys [months ago. Don’t judge, it wouldn’t be in the spirit of TNF if we put this out on time], the time is now to answer the question you’ve all been waiting for: Who’s got the best?

Like trying to pick a favorite child, this decision was among the hardest things I’ve ever made myself decide on. Even without having children, I know that decisions like this must be made.

Kim’s Kuban – Key West

What is there to say? This choice was hard fought, and it came down to the wire. What set Kim’s apart from the rest of the competition were the X-Factors. Everywhere we went, we had a great meal, but the Cuban Mix at Kim’s was just unique enough to get the edge. I can say with confidence that it all came down to the pepperoni. An addition to the standard formula, the added bonus of throwing sliced pepperonis and the extra bite that they provided pushed this Sammich to the front of the line. Add in the fresh tostones and you’ve got a recipe for delight.
