Hear that dinner bell? Of course you don’t, it’s lunch time.
Today we are in a new part of Florida and with that it’s time to resume our quest for the greatest Cuban Sammichs in all of FLA. With that, let’s make some room in the belly and dig in.
Molly Maguire’s is a neat little sandwich shop and eatery nestled in the cozy downtown area of Ocala, Florida. With its name, look, and feel, you’d think that this was some sort of Irish pub and that there’d be no way you could get a good Cuban here. But if you’re walking around the district and look up at the signs of First Avenue Executive Center, Cuban Sandwiches are displayed front and center.
I strolled in after visiting the pawn shop to try to get rid of a microwave that’s been rattling around in the back of my car [spoiler alert: it’s still there] and was not disappointed. The dining area was my kind of quaint; mismatched furniture that embraces its differences and comes together so nicely that it pulls a Lebowski and ties the whole room together. The walls were covered with a mix of Irish and Floridian artwork and history, and you just can’t help but feel at home in this place. You don’t even have to be Irish or Floridish.
Once the sammich came out, I knew we were in business. Pressed, flaky bread? Check. Those good, deli style and flavor pickles? Check? Regional Variation? Double Check! Giving the traditional pulled pork a break, Molly Maguire’s tosses down a few hearty slices of pork loin that doesn’t rest. The kicker? Let’s get a few big o’ slices of salami! If you managed to read through The Tierra Negra Fiction Fictional and Meaningless Award for the Best Cuban Sammich in the Florida Keys post, then you’ll know that I’m a sucker for spicing things up when it comes to flavor.
You know an eatery is great place when the food is just as good as the environment and quirky little things places will do. That’s right, the X-factors. One of the coolest things that’s ever happened to someone drinking water was when they brought out a chilled, old school glass bottle milk jug with a mason jar. Such a neat idea for the folks who keep things mild and get straight hydrated.
10/10. A great place to get a great sammich, no luck involved.
